“I went back to my roots and reclaimed the plant-based lifestyle of my ancestors.”
About Black Vegans of Toronto:
We support Black Canadians who are vegetarian, vegan, or raw foodies and those interested in changing to a plant-based vegan lifestyle. We support each other and respectfully encourage our families, friends, and Black Canadians to adopt this very healthful, disease-preventing lifestyle.
The motivation to start this group came from the not very public, alarming fact that black people in Canada are critically unhealthy. Black Canadians are very high on the list of those suffering from food-borne diseases like arthritis, Alzheimer's, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, Parkinson's, and lupus.
A plant-based lifestyle can prevent and, in some cases, cure as much as 80% of these illnesses. We also cultivate a farm to address food justice, food deserts, childhood obesity, and other food-related issues that affect Black Canadians and our families.
Coming Up:
Toronto Black Vegan Festival on Sunday, August 3rd, at Stackt Market.

About Institute for Future Food Systems:
The food system is broken - wreaking havoc on our health, planet, and economy - and costing the world over $15 trillion annually.
Right here in Toronto, food is our #1 source of emissions!
That's because animal-based foods generate far more emissions than plant-based foods, use more water, and cause large-scale deforestation and species loss.
Chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes are deadly, expensive, but are largely preventable (and even reversible) with plant-based diets.
And over 60% of Torontonians already want to eat less meat!
Reforming food systems is one of the world’s most underused tools for change.
IFFS.earth is an action-oriented evolution of PlantBasedData.org that equips people with credible evidence, actionable playbooks, and connections to others transforming food systems in schools, hospitals, cities, and beyond.
Because when people are informed and connected, systems shift.
